Renting a garage in Exeter

Who can rent a council garage?

Anyone can rent a garage from us, you don't have to be a council tenant.

Why would I rent a garage in the city?

There are many reasons to rent a garage in Exeter:

  • parking close to the city centre is expensive, the average cost of a days parking is between £6 - £15 per day
  • garages are available across the city, there will be a garage in a location to suit you
  • to protect your vehicle from vandalism

 

How much will I pay?

The cost of renting a garage in the city does vary:

  • for a garage in one of the inner city locations the cost is £19.66 per week (inclusive of VAT). However if you are a council tenant you benefit from a cheaper rate of £16.38 per week.
  • for a garage in one of the outlying city locations the cost is £14.76 per week (inclusive of VAT). However if you are a council tenant you benefit from a cheaper rate of £12.30 per week

The rent must be paid by direct debit. Please be aware that if you have any rent arrears or Council Tax arrears you may not be able to rent a garage until these are repaid.

What should I be aware of?

We are currently experiencing a high demand for our garages and you are likely to be waiting at least a year before you are offered one.

There is no electricity provided and garages are not water tight so if you decide to store anything in them please be aware that it could be damaged. We accept no responsibility for lost or damaged items stored in garages. It is a good idea to take out insurance on the garage if you intend to store other items there apart from vehicles.

You cannot keep any toxic or flammable materials in our garages.

 

How do I apply?

To apply to go on the garage waiting list please email lettingsandhomeownership@exeter.gov.uk with the following details:

  • Your name, address and contact details.
  • A list of the locations you are interested in.

 

Car parking spaces

We also have a limited number of car parking spaces at:

  • Hillyfield Road
  • Watergate
  • Westview Terrace

The cost is £12.42 per week (inclusive of VAT). However if you are a council tenant you benefit from a cheaper rate of £10.35 per week.
